Default Possible problem with servo

Just bought a used spectrum 6040 servo.and when I turn the servo left to right by hand I feel crunching.. I'm pretty sure that's not normal. But looking for a second opinion before having a word with seller.

can you over tighten the screws on the back plate of a Servo and make the gears bind?

Ok when I tighten the screws to snug.the servo binds.when I back off the screws a turn the servo runs smoothly.my savox servo you can tighten the screws all the way down a no binding..kinda confused if I fixed the problem by backing of the screws.or is there still a problem with the servo?
