Good morning,
I'm looking to purchase a new ESC for 17.5 Touring. I see that everyone posts the amps(45,100,120,160) but does that really matter for 17.5 blinky?
Is there certain esc that are better for blinky classes. I mainly see speed passion, hobbywing, and orca at my local track. Any recommendations?
Thank you

I run Trackstar gear myself. All 120A units. This allows me to not have to worry about ESC temperatures, and to throw up to a 5.5 at my cars if I feel the need, without having to change ESCs.

A 17.5 almost never draws 40A. The Juststock is good for a 13.5 as well. Several friends are running 13.5 SCT with no issues (with oem fan). I prefer the Tekin RS in 17.5 sedan because the throttle response is noticeably faster when you grab a quick squirt of throttle. In offroad, I don't notice it as much.

For a 17.5 class you can get away with 45A/60A. The only time a stock motor is likely to draw large amounts of current is at/near dead-stop. You wouldn't have any room to upgrade motor for that ESC though. Hobbywing JuStock are pretty popular in our area for blinky-only classes.

Gen 1 Trackstar 120 esc run about $43 before shipping (around $50 with shipping) in the USA east warehouse. 80amp is a little cheaper. Keep in mind these esc come not soldered so you would have some soldering to do. Last I checked the hobbywing goes for around 50. I think for around the same price you could also get a speed passion revention s for about the same off of ebay.
