Default Brushless motor temperature question.

I run a Tekin RX8 GEN 2 with a Tekin PRO4 4600KV 540, I also run a Trinity Zombie 4850KV.

I read all the time about extreme temperatures.

My RX8 Gen 2 never exceeds the ambient light. And the hottest my Tekin pro4 has gotten using a 17t pinion is about 105f.

The Trinity Zombie runs a little warmer at 120f average without extreme timming but I've gotta be really burning on it to get there..

I'm using a 20C battery, is my ESC not able to pull enough amps from it?! I think 20C can be drained at a continuous of 95 amps or so.

Running a 14t pinion my motors are hardly warm..

Ambient temps outside have been around 70's to 80's F all week.

Is this normal?

using different gear on the motor, obtain the same temperature of motor and controller, if the hot motor controller, gear motor to increase a bit, if the controller has a hotter motor, the gear motor is necessary to reduce the number of teeth

But neither my motor, or my RX8 run much more then ambient temperature.

I did another run last night. I installed the 17t pinion, and nearly burned the truck to death. ESC was ambient, and the motor was 95f. Right after it came off.

I'm not sure how much more I can gear it. 20, or 25t pinion?

For a 5 minute run the brushless motor temperature shouldn't exceed 110°-F.

Take Care

Interesting cause some people told me not to run over 80°.

What is correct ? 110° or 80 ° ?

Some people are quoting Fahrenheit and others are quoting Celsius. 110C is way too hot. 110F is not very warm. 80C is about as hot as you want to go.

When it's around 85°-F at the track; I'll run the motor until it reaches 110°-F(120°-F tops).
- no more than 5 minute runs
- gear it right - don't want to burn-out a motor because of a gearing mistake

Depends on the motor, LRP X12/X20 will tolerate 85-90C fairly well other brands won't. 70C is a good point to stop and have a look at things

I run Reedy and Team Orion motors. The precautions say: the motors shouldn't past 80C or 175F.

I just purchased a Reedy 10.5 motor. The motor will get a little warm after 3-minutes of free wheel running. (new motor - never been run outside)

Is the motor getting warm because of the 20° timing?

Thanks
