Default Overheating issues

Hi

I was wondering if anyone uses the little duratrax flashpoint temp gun?

I'm running a 13 turn motor in my losi 22 2.0 and I'm pretty sure my gearing is close to bang on. After a good six minute run the duratrax flash point was reading over 230f I dialled everything down and the temp came down a bit. I still thought something was up so I grabbed a temp gun from Canadian tire and shot them both at the bulb from my desk lamp. Duratrax read 280f and the mastercraft one read 178 - 180ish. Has anyone had this issue?

That temp on motor or ESC? Brushed or Brushless? What is your Gear Ratio, Pinion to Spur, It maybe spot on to you but overgeared. More info. Hi temps on brushless motor kills motor.

Hi

It's a cheap hobbywing brushless combo. $60 for esc and motor. It's a 13 turn. My gearing is 28/70. It's the motor getting hit. I'm not worried if I kill this motor as long as I can figure this out. I'm just worried my temp gun was giving me a false reading. After a good run I can touch the motor longer than 5 seconds.

Your temp gun is WRONG, get a new one. I've had those cheap Duratrax ones, they're JUNK.

I would check the temps of boiling water instead of a lightbulb since we all know water boils at 100c or 212f. This way you know for sure if your temp gun is out of calibration or not.

Thanks for all the input guys. I tried the crushed ice method I found through Google for checking if a temp gun is properly calibrated and yep the duratrax is way off.

I have a lasergrip 1080. Just checked it with boiling water.
When water begins to boil (many tiny bubbles) it read 190*F.
At hard boil (larger bubbles) it read 220*F.
I think that's as accurate as we need. Got it at Amazon. I don't have the direct link, about 20. to 25. dollars.
