Default Snarling? Hyperion Charger

Hello everyone

I was wondering if any of you guys have had a Hyperion charger that's snarling when you use it? I bought one second hand and outside it looks to be in good order but when I charge something it starts to snarl after a bit and sometimes it lasts for a few moments and other times it goes on for longer periosd of time or even through out the charge cycle.

Any of you techies out there who have an idea why or if something can be done or is it simply on it's way to die on me?

Hope you all have a super day.

I don't have this charger, but could this be the fan?

It's probably the fan.

Hey guys thanks for replying.

I thought it was dirt or other nasty stuff at first too, so I took it apart and looked things over as well as possible. There's not much room for inspection, due to short wires. The fan was the first thing I gave a close look, since it's easy to get to. but nothing, there's hardly any dust on it either and it does run. But you guys are right after some test charges and discharges I can conclude it is indeed the fan that makes the noise. So I am on the hunt for a new one. Not having much luck though. The fan used in the charger is a 12V - 0.11A 40x40x20mm brushless 2pin (note it's 2 pin not 3 pin even though it's brushless) So if any of you guys can find anything similar with as high air flow as possible drop a link.

I have another Hyperion charger, which is dead silent, it's an 0606i AC/DC and it gets hot. Not so I can't touch it, but still too hot for my taste and it don't have any active cooling. There's no fan inside it that's for sure, I took it apart and inside there's a powerbrick from a small laptop, so there's not even room for a small fan if I wanted to put one in.

For your replacement fan, does it really have to be brushless? I mean even on your RC's ESC you can technically run 2 wires for brushed or brushless motors.

On your other unit, does it have a heat sink? If not, you can bolt one on or use thermal mounting tape to mount. My old Nicd chargers get VERY hot, but that's just the way they are. No issue.

No you are right, the new fan don't have to be a brushless one, but I found one I belive will fit nicely and it's both brushless and with just two wires for connection like the original which is also brushless with just two wires. It has close to the same specs as the original, but with higher airflow, so true it will also be louder. I guess I'm a bit of an oddball, since I hate noise that sounds like something is busted, but the sound from a fan going full power don't bother me the least.

As for the other charger, putting a heat sink on it could be one way to get the temp down. Only problem would be, I somehow doubt it would do much good. The laptop power brick that's inside is fully cased, so it's pretty much ready to take out and hook up to a laptop.
In order to really cool the unit and power brick, would then be to disassemble the power brick as well and see if any cooling device, either active or passive could be mounted somewhere.

Nah I have decided to trust that Hyperion have made their homework properly and made the right calculations on what the power brick is capable to deliver within a safe margin of heat building up while doing so.
