that was my next question
what would be a good charger for racing?
what model do you like and why?
so charging batteries at a higher rate before you race would be good?

platgof 01-23-2015 07:42 PM

The big question here is exactly what batteries are you charging?????? 2s, 3s,4s, 5000 mah, 10,000 mah?

fizzy 01-23-2015 08:48 PM

I'll drop in on this one as I posted another thread about which charger and I was asking cause I want a charger that it won't matter if I use it on a 2s 2000 mah battery or a 4s 5000 mah I want to buy one and that's it not have to worry about purchasing another for a higher rate battery and this and that. So what charger do I look for that is capable of it all?

Something with a high output. Youre only limited by what you feel like spending.

For example if you want a hitec x4 because it can do 4 at a time. The output is only 50 watts on each channel. It will only charge at a max of 6 amps and could take an hour to charge a 4s 5000 mah battery.
While another charger that is $150 more with 200 watts could do it in much less time.

They can all charge. They just do it at different rates.

So if you think you need the really fast charge times on large batteries (4s +) then you need one with higher watt output

A 50 watt charger cannot charge a 4S lipo at 6 amps. More like 3 amps or so, up to a couple hours to charge typical 1/8 electric packs.

For typical 4S packs I'd suggest at least 100 watts of charger power, 200 wouldn't hurt, like you mention.

I have a 2x 100w charger but I am also looking at a B6 mini. This smaller version of the Simple B6 50w charger is easy to store with your equipment but I want to keep it in home for simple and quick charge of everything I need so I can leave the Venom Medion Dual packed in the bag.

Yes, I also do have an older Infinity-III which I do love to use but the external balancer is not easy to work with. I think the B6 mini is an ideal gadget to have next to a better charger.

I have an X4 and it says it's charging at 6 amps in the fast charge mode. and is done in 35-40 min from storage usually. charging a 5000 mah 4s battery. I don't know if all 50w chargers have this feature but the hitec does.

but you're right about the 3 amp part. if charged in balance or normal charge mode it only gets about 3. but only takes about an hour. much longer on balance. it also drops off the closer it gets to full.
it ignores all of that in fast charge it seems like. but each cell is only measuring 4.15 when it's done. so it's not a full charge.

but yeah the more the better for sure. for time of charge that is.

Storage is around 50% charged, depending some on the charger and what voltage is used for storage. 4.15V/cell is about 90% charged. That's about a 40% charge, for a 5000mAh battery about 2000mAh. 40 minutes at 3 amps is 2000mAh.

A true 6 amp charger would take a 5000mAh pack from well below storage, not far from dead even, to 4.15V/cell in 40 minutes or so.

I have to correct myself. you guys were right. it's the 2s battery I was thinking of. I just had it out today.
the 4s is stuck on 3.2amps max.

i notice a lot of you guys talking about a 4x hitec charger. whats your thoughts on this charger good& the bad?

i am also waiting and struggling with what charge i shall acquire this year.
the contenders are pl8, orion duo, new powerlab gt-500, hyperion(if there is a new model)

my requirement is to charge at least 2 packs of 2S, high power charging and discharging(at least 5A), firmware up-gradable, color screen and touch screen is not a must, built-in supply(fine with either).

i had a pl8 before. but it was burnt by a careless racers in my track. i don't mind buying it again.

any suggestion? please feel free to comment.
