Default Capacitor bank question(s)

Thinking of going to the 4 capacitor bank, instead of the current 2 capacitor bank, what are the advantages of making this change?

Sorry, a bit slow when it come to electronics.

....thanks.

It is quite likely that you will find no difference in performance. The power capacitor smooths out the high frequency ripple and spikes from PWM (partial-throttle motor operation). The manufacturer's original capacitor was (hopefully!) selected to be sufficient, and going larger doesn't do much-- it's a case of diminishing returns.

Thanks Howard, I fried my capacitors last night with a momentary crossing of + and - on my battery and need to replace the 'caps' so I can check function of my Hobbywing ESC.

I didn't think it would benefit performance, just curious if it would help any in the anti-glitch department. Looks like I'll just get the 2 cap replacement I see available.

You could temporarily "borrow" the cap(s) from a different ESC to test the HobbyWing. That would save a few bucks if the HobbyWing is dead.

What kind of "glitch" are you referring to and what radio system do you have? I haven't had any glitches in years since going to 2.4 systems. When I ran four cell 1/12 scale when spektrum was pretty new, had to buy the cap that plugged into the receiver. But I don't even think I ever experienced a problem then, just did it as a precautionary measure due to what I was reading about happening at the time.

You can test the ESC on the bench with out the capacitor bank connected. If the ESC works through the rpm range and brake range then it may have survived the reverse polarity.

The Capacitor bank PCB also has a diode on it that may have been damaged.

Do not rev the car to high free wheeling if you have a motor of high rpm (mod motors)
