can you bind a 3 ch spektrum radio to a 4 channel spektrum reciever?

Probably not since the 4 channel receivers use the newest radio protocol DSMR.

The transmitter is backwards compatible not forward.

Like I said. It will depend if the receiver's firmware is the newest or not. The number of channels is mutually exclusive of the protocols.
