First time using the discharge ability on my iCharger 306B - it says it can discharge at 30 amps. I set it to 30 amps, start the discharge, and it won't go over 7.6 amps.

Not sure if it has any effect, but I'm powering the charger with a 75 amp power supply.

I have the same charger as you have and even though I have set the discharge rate at say 23 or 29 amps depending on what type of battery I'm using it usually never gets up to that maybe it has to do with it detecting what are packs like or don't like. or something to do with the IR. I even run the Orion 100 C shorties and saddles So I know the packs are allowed to discharge at higher rates

The charger has a power limit for internal discharging, 80 watts it appears.

Higher discharge rates take either a regenerative or external load setup. Then the full 30A should be available. Regen uses a rechargeable battery as the power source, say a large enough lead acid (auto) battery. The charger basically works in reverse and uses the RC pack to charge the lead acid. External uses an external load, power resistors, light bulbs, etc, to help dissipate the energy.

In order to utilize the full 30amps discharge, you need to use regenerative or external load. I would go with the regenerative route since you need quite a lot of low resistance resistors and lots of cooling or 12V spot lights to get 30 amps.

What people do is they hook up the charger to their car and turn on the radio and lights to simulate a load and regenerative discharge their pack back into the car's battery.

Is there a company that builds an external load setup? I think I've seen these at the track.

Some people have used items such as car headlights (sealed beam) and personally I have built a discharger using peltier elements (link below) or load resistors. My setup can discharge 30A off of a 4S without issue.

Another possibility for an inexpensive discharge load. Takes a little build work but not too bad (depending on your viewpoint of course). If I remember correctly there are different versions including a 20 and a 30.

I also would not use the full 80Watts of discharge power from the charger. It will generate A LOT of heat and may cause problems.

Not a duo. I've built external dischargers for it.

I use a discharging bank plugged into channel 2 and discharge at 30A.

Not possible. The 306B only has a single port. The 308B is a dual port.
