My LHS had a lipo fire this week and i wanted to invest in some more lipo bags i have a Bluecell lipo bag now but i read that it might not do its job well.
What is a proven Good/Safe lipo bag

Been a while since I've looked into it, but I recall a thread with test videos where this was the best. A sack is not perfect, should still be on non flammable surface, and don't leave charging unattended that's when most mayhem occurs. Won't stop the nasty toxic smoke either.

A lipo bag really just gives you time to throw the lipo out the door before the fire. For containment, you probably need something like the Venom strongbox or an ammo box. I think it's overkill though.

I've been thinking about getting one of these safe bags too. Even if it just gives you enough time to unplug and scramble with it too the door is better than having burn down a house...or track. I need to run over the LHS to pickup my order so maybe i'll see what they have.

Really a good idea for any track would be to keep some 5 gallon buckets about 1/3 full of sand around the workbenches. The real trick though would be to keep them from being used as an ashtray. But it would be a great option for a lipo fire, even one on the track while running.

I use this to charge/store lipos in. I had to buy a pre-made charging lead that I could feed into the box, but I feel a lot safer charging and storing lipo packs inside of of it.

Has anyone done some real world testing of lipo safe bags with typical car batteries? All I can find are some videos with small packs and big sacks and boxes.
I'd like to know whether all those small "form-fitting" lipo bags that are roughly the size of a pack are worth anything, as tablespace is really constrained at the track.

Those are only very vague stories, nothing that even remotely resembles a comparison test.

When a battery vents, its the gas released that is flammable. If that battery is inside a bag when it vents, then the bag becomes a balloon of flammable gas. Something like an ammo box or clay flower pot allows the gas to dissipate faster while containing the fire better than a lipo bag.

Basically that's what I have gathered from searching older threads, and got me thinking that a money box could be the best compromise. But if the small glass fiber boxes could work as well then they would be much more comfortable to carry around and take up less space. At recent races in Europe those seem to be the standard, as can be seen at recent ets pictures:




I just wonder whether they contain the fire well enough and give enough time to disconnect the packs and dispose of them safely if something goes very wrong. Or maybe they are only using them because of sponsorship deals and will only be around until the first failure?
