Trying to learn
#1
I've been out of the racing game since 2001 and am looking to get back in since my boys are old enough to race with me. But this new tech is scaring me to be honest and preventing me from going for it. I have a B5M waiting for me under the x-mas tree this year and dont know what type of servo to get for it. I know I need a speed servo but do I need a high voltage servo or is a digital servo going to work with a 7.4V batt? I will most likely be running an Tekin RS ESC....
I'm sure this has been asked before if so I apologize for the repeat.

Id recommend something around the 0.08/60 and 10kg would be ample. I personally use the Sanwa ERS-961 on 6v although it will handle HV perfectly ok but it is not needed to push it that hard. Even a low profile such as the ERS-971 would also be fine. Don't be scared of the new tech - brushless systems and lipos have revolutionised rc racing and had made things so much easier in most areas!

The Tekin (and pretty much all other esc's) has a 6 volt BEC so it doesn't matter what battery you run, even 12 volts, the servo and receiver will only see 6.
Definitely don't be scared. It is SO much easier to be competitive these days and this forum or local racers can answer all your questions.

You might want to try one of these, I have a couple in my 2wd and my sons and they have been working a treat. http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...arch=trackstar servo
