Default Speed Passion ESC compatibility?

I have a HPI club racer with a the speed passion stock racer ultra sportsman 17.5r motor + esc combo. For some reason, my motor stopped working. no damage (barely used actually). it just doesnt turn. I've verified the esc & the receiver are connected correctly. The receiver still works correctly as the steering responds. When i press the throttle on the transmitter, I do see the esc light blinking / reacting to the throttle input.

Maybe I need a replacement?

I'm ok buying the newer competition 3.0, 17.5r motor as long as it works with the ESC. Or would it be better to buy a new esc + motor combo? Any ways that I can battery wire the motors to confirm if its the motor and not the esc?

Thoughts / suggestions? car is not raced, and I just realized I have parts for a full aluminium replacement as well.

Before you do anything else, try a new sensor cable.

Good idea. Is it pretty much any sensor cable or specific to the ESC + motor ? As in do I have to find a speed passion sensor cable?

Edit: as in, would this work? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCPCW&P=7

Any sensor cable will work. I've had good luck with the TQ brand ones lasting the longest, just make sure you get one long enough for your application but not so long it becomes a tangled mess on the car.

Good piece of advice Mark, came to my mind as soon as I read Dazed's question but you were so much faster D let us know later was it the cable.

I should be getting the cable in mail today. So hopefully I'll know soon. Hope thats what it is, would be a cheap fix compared to a new motor

Nope. Did not help .
Put in the new cable. had the battery charged. The wheels turn, the esc recognizes that the throttle is pressed (red light goes away), but no motor movement. blah

Have you checked the end point adjustments/throttle settings on your radio? Sometimes if they are turned down too far, the radio won't send the signal to your ESC and you'll have reduced or no speed. Also, if you somehow accidentally reversed your throttle settings on the radio that could do it.

Yes, either test the battery in a different vehicle and see if it does the same thing, or try a new battery. Is it a LiPo or NiMh?

No go with a new battery too

Time to go to LHS or hobby town and see if they can help figure it out.

I went to Hobbytown and the guy said its most likely the motor is bad. He said usually if you try to turn it, it should turn (without any power), and if you try to short 2, it should move a bit (?)

So anyways, I'll be emailing speed passion. The ESC has a blinking red (low voltage) and a steady orange.

Thoughts on what replacement motor I can get? I believe the ESC will support anything upto a 9.5

The blinking red is telling you the esc is in stock mode ( blindly mode)
