Default DX4R traction setting

First I apologize if this has been covered, I did not come up with anything in search.

What exactly does the "traction" setting in the dx4r pro do ? Since it is not an active (monitoring) traction control device is it ROAR legal?
It seems like an on the fly punch or response setting . I was playing with it with my 2wd buggy last night and it seemed to make a huge difference out of corners.
