I am considering buying a new traxxas slash 4x4 platinum edition and I want to upgrade the ESC and motor. My 2wd slash has a mamba max pro ESC with a velineon motor and it's great! I like the mamba max pro ESC so that's what the 4wd is getting but as far as a motor I am wondering what would be better for bashing the 2400 KV 550 size castle creation motor or the 3800 KV 540 size castle creation motor? Both motors are four poll. Any input is appreciated!

the 550 for sure. cooler temps and more power. look into getting upgraded shafts though. the stock plastic slide shafts on the slash tend to break at high power.

I would do the 3800 in the slash 4x4. The castle 2400 has a lot of power and will move the truck around, but unless you run 3S on it the top end will not be there.

The 3800 540 motor has plenty of grunt for a 4x4 SC, and it has a top end that is about right on a 2S setup.

Top end shouldn't be a problem because I use a 4s 13.2v lifep04 battery pack. Plus from what I understand with the 550 sized motor you are able to run a larger pinion gear without overheating the motor, obviously increasing the top end speed. I used to have a slash 4x4 and it had a Mamba Max pro ESC with the stock velineon motor and it had good speed but the motor got hot easily (because it's only a 2 poll?) especially with the big battery power! I do run on the pavement mostly because I am paralyzed and I live in a nursing home there is a huge parking lot in the back of the facility where I live that I like to run on. Because of that and having all that grip wouldn't I be better off with a motor that has more torque? Thanks for the input! I had the 3800 in my slash 4x4, and although it didnt run hot, it was a little toasty, even at stock gearing. It wasn't all that fast either, even compared to the stock motor. much more torquey though.

look at ebay! seriously. people are parting out platinum and ultimate slashes. this is good, because you then get to pick your body, tires, and electronics separately. they were about 250 for a brand new chassis i think.

On 4S the castle 2400 will be beast of a motor.
