Default Tekin Hotwire question

Hey guys, i was looking at getting something to take to the track with me to mess with my esc if need be. i am tired of lugging my laptop with me since its 17" and don't like getting it all dirty at the track.

will the new chromebooks work with the hotwire?

if not i thought maybe a cheapo tablet?

my phone and current tablet are both ipad and iphone so will not work with the new app. Thanks guys

I would not expect anything but Android and MS Windows to work with Hotwire.

You can get a cheap tablet, that may be the way to go.

Also the new HW update on Android has me working now, this is new as of the last few days.

any tablet or computer should work, but the tablet will only work with the Hotwire Gen2.

Ya you do need the Gen2 esc but you also need the Gen2 Hotwire box as well to work with the app

not true, the new hotwire app dropped this week. Gen 1 ESC and android 4.3/4.4 work now.

If you get a windows based tablet, it has to be a pro version. You need 32 bit native application support. So any tablet that is RT based will not work. On the other hand any basic android device should work.

Gen 1 hotwire and android needs a OTG cable

Gen 2 hotwire and android does not need a OTG cable.

I'm not sure on chromebook, as its not android based.

If you can find a cheap mini lap top, works fine too and not so big.

Like I said before, if you have a Gen 1 hotwire, you need the OTG cable. You can find them online or at Frys electronics store. Bestbuy may have them, and you may have luck at any store that sells USB cables. I got mine for 4 bucks, you may find them cheaper online, but I didn't feel like waiting for it.

As for connecting it, you just plug in the OTG, then hotwire, then your esc. You may have to cycle the app once or twice, but everything is seamless pretty much. The esc and hotwire receive power from the tablet.

OTG - On the Go USB cable. It allows devices like phones and some tables to have control of the usb. Most USB devices work in a slave master design. for example - your computer would always be the master and what ever your hooking up would be the slave. In this case the cable makes your phone the master and the hotwire the slave. This is all Gen 1 hotwire.

Gen 2 hotwire does not require the OTG cable, it has the hardware built into the hotwire.
