I've never raced before. I'm setting up a RC10 B6 to try carpet racing and am trying to decide on a ESC, based somewhat on the BEC. One Hobbywing ESC I want to use has a 2A linear BEC, and the other has a 3A switch-mode. Both ESCs have cooling fans. Obviously the 3A switch-mode is better, but I'm wondering if I can get by with the 2A linear.

I'd like to run an Xpert servo, but have some questions about their power demands. I'm leaning towards the PI-3431 servo; which I think will be more than adequate. Will that run fine with the 6v 2A linear BEC? The PI-3402 is about 50% stronger. Do I really need the extra torque, and if so, would the 3A switch-mode BEC be required for the PI-3402, or would a 2A linear still power that and a cooling fan?

Either will work great for you. No external BEC is required for either servo. Those specs are more related to the that esc. The 3402 with the extra torque will make the servo "bite" harder, which means it may actually feel too fast at times. This can be adjusted on most radios if its too much. Some like faster response, others little slow with 2wd buggy. Really can't go wrong with either.

Thank you for the reply. I actually already got the PI-3431, because I was afraid about the amp draw. It turns out I didn't need to be. I'm used to coreless servos - brushless are MUCH more efficient. At 6v the peak amp draw was under an amp!! The range for me was between .20 amps and .97. Really, really impressive. I'm looking forward to getting this on a track. I'll look into Xpert for RC heli servos, too. I hadn't heard of them before doing research for my new 2WD buggy..

If you like them for the car one, wait til you try the heli ones!!! They come from the air/heli world.. That's the bread and butter!!

I'm having difficulty removing the gear that meshes with the motor pinion. Normally the shaft lifts out on other servos but this shaft seems locked in place. Am I doing something wrong?
