Autenna wire length

What's the norm for auntenna heights? I see some running a 2-3" high auntenna, others none. Can I get away with just keeping it in the receiver box?

With 2.4 you can leave it inside the receiver box. I've done so and it's been fine however it's best to get the white antenna bit of the wire out of the box so I just have the top 1" inside a short antenna tube. It's best to get max range out of the system.
