Offroad brushless motor question..

Hey guys, I bought a new brushless motor, it's got the vented can on it. I got to wondering if I would be better off with a can with no holes in it, or does it matter? I am worried about the dirt and dust getting in it so was just curious. Any opinions would be appreciated, as I am rather new at the brushless stuff.

Depending on the gearing & the "power" of the motor venting can help...
A 17.5 for example in a heavy chassis has a hard time keeping cool when geared to the hilt.
A high power setup like a 8.5 in that same chassis will go a lot faster with less "heat".
All but one of my motors are sealed tight.
The one vented one is an ooooold motor & has plenty of dirt ran through it.
There is some merit to the dirt getting into the windings & wearing on the insulation, but I haven't seen that as the major cause of failure on any of my many motors.

That's a GeForce motor from Valuehobby.com I've got a bunch of there lipo's and really like them, so I wanted to try there motors out.

As for vented cans... the holes work both ways... dirt goes out as fast as it goes in. The sealed cans still seem to collect dirt despite reason and logic.
Does not seem to make a difference.
But with a vented can I will say it seems easier to motor spray that bad boy. You do not have to take it apart for a quick spritz.

I run vented can motors in my 2wd rear motor buggies on a VERY dusty track out here in the Middle East. After a few runs I'll take it out remove the end bell and just blow it through with an airline. Re-oil the bearings and they've been totally fine. Personally I don't think it makes much difference on wear between a vented and non-vented can. Over here the ambient heat means vented is probably best for me!!
