The next RC evolution - The Sugar Batteries thread
They are reporting on the radio and interwebz that scientists have created something called sugar batteries. These batteries are the latest technology and are extremely promising as far as performance with minimal environmental impact. When I first heard about this, I was extremely skeptical. Usually, anything called "green" is usually lackluster. However, these sugar batteries could be the biggest thing to ever happen to our hobby since lipo batteries first hit the scene.
Here is an article about the technology:

This really sounds intriguing. If what is being said is true, these batteries could be cheaper, more powerful and completely reusable. Not to mention no negative effects on the environment! Imagine lipo batteries becoming obsolete!
Everyone please feel free to chime in and share any thoughts, concerns or prayers hoping that this becomes reality

So were the other 5 techs that have been 'announced' in the past 10 years...

I hate to think about the day when all of the mines run dry and we can no longer purchase lithium based batteries. More than likely, it would be due to some future ban on importation or other crazy EPA law.
These sugar batteries would just be amazing.

lipo's aren't bad for the environment. they're inert ingredients and can be disposed of in the trash once discharged.
so I understand.
as for the sugar battery...I highly doubt the industry will let it see the light of day. lobbyist will get people to think it will raise the price of food. just like they do with ethanol. price...probably the same as a lipo now.
just like if a car ran on water, your water bills would probably quadruple.

Lacking discharge capacity. From the article...
Even though the sugar battery stores a high amount of energy for its mass, the maximum amount of power it can put out is still lower than that of lithium-ions, thus limiting its potential applications to portable devices (you couldn't use a sugar battery to run vehicles, for instance).
