Ive never had good luck when the wire is sill a bright copper color, rather than more of a silver color. Otherwise I need the iron super hot to get it to flow into the wire.

My guess then is its a lack of flux.

I've never had an issue with TQ wire, personally. :) |
no flux, no flow. flux is a flowing agent, so without it it can be hard to solder. that is why most solder you buy now will have a little in the center of the wire, so you don't have to add flux separately all the time.

This is always a good read when having issues soldering. http://www.rctech.net/forum/radio-el...ef-lesson.html

I've used TQ wire for a while and like it very much. Ralph is great to deal with as well. Fast shipping is always a plus. I ordered one Saturday morning and he had it out before the Post Office closed at noon.

Clean wire, pre-tin with 60/40 to 70/30 rosin core and a bit of flux, good heat till it flows, make your connection. Done ... Good luck |

I just checked and I have 60/40 rosin core solder. I have been soldering for a long time, and this TQ wire I cannot get to tin...
|
I always use flux on a wire/connector that hasn't been soldered on yet. A new surface can be tricky without some extra. Works for me!

Its not a rosin core solder I am almost positive of that, so that could be. I have a new Trackpower TK-950 so the iron is not the issue. I am on the road for work but I will check tonight when I get home. I am just trying to wick some solder onto the wire before I solder it to the ESC and it will not take.
For what little it helps at this point, I have a bunch of TQ Wire in many colors, never noticed much difference soldering compared to any other, including Deans, Buds, etc. I heartily agree to always use just a touch of additional flux, especially on new work, just makes it so much quicker and more reliable (less chance of cold solder). |
I am using a brand new Trakpower 950. I bought new solder today and could not get it to work. I soldered up another ESC with silver wire and it worked flawlessly.
