Well now that I've just read 6+ pages of mostly bad input about this esc and this was the esc I was set to use on my next build. I already bought the esc, orion motor, and the programming box. My next question is. Are there any racers out using this set-up and are NOT having any problems with it and like it? If not I guess I will be returning these and going a different route. If anyone has any input good or bad I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance

I'd like to see pics of anyone running one of these in an EB48.3 as I'm starting to play around with mounting mine. That external capacitor bank and HUGE arse switch present unique challenges when you have limited real estate to work with.

Does anyone use the Vortex R8 Pro extreme esc in any 1/8th race bred vehicle?

Angry Scammed by orion

Hello Friends, I need to tell this by which is an incredible.
I have 3 buggy, and I bought three Combo Orion Vortex R8.1 + 2100kv motor, I have two months ago and the 3 combos have been burned, I have commanded to Orion service and the technician said that have been misuse. have more than 20 years in the hobby, and perfectly as it all works, I had to fit the variators old that had, some of them with more than 2 years old. It seems that only make bad use of the ESC of Orion, for that which I have old work perfectly well, therefore seen the variators old does not give them misuse, that these work perfectly, The technician of Orion is believed that I suck my finger or something, or it has been believed that I am stupid. I am discussion with them, I tell you all of this because it is very clear that they have a serious problem in the manufacture of this model of ESC, before you buy one, look very carefully the warranty, they apparently do not responsible for anything, though the guilt to be a factory defect.
At the moment I am still waiting for an answer from them. Will I be able to by this channel what happens, so that people know as is this brand to their customers.
ORION
Please sorry for my english.

I just want to tell you here my experience.
I got a great disappointment with the service of Orion and their abusive policies against consumers.

Just bought an 8ight e 3.0 with the Vortex R8.1 and SMC 1900. I have mainly run Tekin, so we'll see how it works out.

Here is an update. Sorry I am late on this.

I finally ran the R8.1 Last night. It is a really smooth set-up. Ran plenty cool at 15 43 in the 8ight 3.0. It ran just as good as the RX8. Used it with an SMC 6500 and a Reedy 5500. I will say that the R8.1 is a little more difficult to program. You need an expensive program box if you don't like programming with lights and sounds. I will say the light and sound option is easier to use than castle's

The RX8 is great as well. It seems to have a wider range of adjust ability over the R8.1, but I haven't used the fancy program box for the R8.1.

I have been running the orion r8.1 in my truggy and buggy since day 1 when they came out along with the orion motors. I have never had a issue yet and I run the hell out of them with one on my mp9e and my et48.3. I would never go back to tekin again as orion has much better breaks and power band.

Small update. Finally was able to run this combo R8.1 pro and SMC 1900 in a race last weekend and absolutely loved it. Temps were right around 134 F. Such a smooth combo. Picked up a second for my truggy.

What motor are guys using with this esc for truggy?

I've got the Orion 2100, and just picked up an SMC1900 to try out as well. The big issue I have is a very twitchy initial throttle input. If I'm already at part throttle, and just giving it more or less throttle based on where I'm at on the track, everything is fine. However, when I brake coming into a turn, and then get back on the throttle, there is a very abrupt initial hit that makes my car get very loose.

I've already tried different expo on my radio, wider & narrower neutral range, set punch level to 1 and 2 on the ESC, but nothing has made the problem go away. On the braking side, it's smooth as butter, but I just can't get it that smooth on the throttle side.

What's also strange is that, if I have the car on the stand, and go from nothing to full throttle, my Tekin motor and ESC will rev up smoothly. When doing the same thing with the Orion motor and ESC, there is an initial spin up for maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a second, then a definite step up in RPM that can be easily heard and felt. It's almost like it shifts into another gear......very odd.

I don't know if that's what I'm feeling on the track, but it's acting like that, and the time where it occurs coincides very well....
