First time charging LiPo, need help.

I bought a HiTec X1 and have a SPC LiPo 6500mAh 7.4v 2S2P 65c 48.1Wh

I watched a couple of videos on what settings to use and they said to charge at what the mAh rating is.

So my 6500mAh should be charged at 6.5A but, the charger only goes up to 6.0A

Is it okay to charge at a lower amperage?

Perfectly OK to charge your 6500 Mah pack at 6 amps.

The slower the better for the health of the battery. If you have the time, charge at 50%.

It just finished and took 35min.

So if I only charge at 3.5A it will help my battery to last longer?

What about the volts?

Not a problem

35 minutes sounds about right, a new pack is typically about half charged, or what's called storage charge. It might take up to around an hour or slightly more to charge if ran down most of the way. FYI, don't fully discharge a lipo.

As long as the charger is set on lipo mode correctly, the charger will take care of the volts. They should rise up to 4.2V per cell, 8.4V total for your 2S pack, then the amps will drop off as it holds the voltage to top off the pack.

Personally I wouldn't take the time to charge at a lower amperage, modern lipos can easily handle a ~1C charge rate without issue.

I'd love to see the link provided by you that will show charging a lipo @ .5C will extend its life. Or is this just your opinion?

All slow charging does is waste your time. You can charge most good lipo's at 3C with no ill effects.

his charger can't handle faster charge rates. He was saying is a slower charge was acceptable.

Uhm, not really what he said.

Yes, slower charge rates are acceptable but really unnecessary.....in the case of the OP he's stuck with the output of his charger. But charging at .5C or lower doesnt provide any benefit to the life of the battery.

I was More talking about the op, as the posts trickled down from that. I could have done better with the quoting though.
