Default RTR Associated Brushless ESC Issues...

I have had 2 RTR Associated cars in the last year. One was an RC10B4.1, and the current one is a SC10B. Both of these cars had the same ESC issues, no problem with forward, but consistent issues with the brake to reverse transition. I am not new to RC, and have been in the hobby for almost 30 years consistently. I followed the set-up instructions to a "T", and could never get consistent performance, and sometimes would even have to go get the car because I could not get reverse to activate. Both with stock RTR radio's.

The one I currently have is the SC700-BL from the SC10B and have given up on it also. With both cars, I finally gave up and swapped in VXL ESC's I had left over from other Traxxas projects, and in both cases, all problems were immediately solved. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just how they are? And I know what the first ? will be, and yes, I did have the transmitter throttle trim to zero before set-up. Any idea's?

It's not the esc that's the issue it's the radio. All associated rtr radios do this for some reason. Upgrade your radio and the problem will be gone.

I have the flysky gt3b and it does the same thing, but I don't need reverse for racing so I don't worry about it, but I see alot of them do that!!

I have since purchased a Futaba 4LPS Telemetry radio, and the receiver it came with is in my SCX10. I'll buy another receiver and swap that in with the original ESC and see how that goes, I planned on gradually switching all my cars over to the Futaba radio anyway as I could justify buying Futaba receivers. This wouldn't surprise me one bit, as the first Associated transmitter I had also had a garbage range. I really wish more manufactures would start selling "RX Ready" cars. I like RTR pricing over kits, but the only radios I have ever gotten from an RTR that are reliable are the Traxxas ones.

Have you tried setting it to a different run mode? I know you can change it for like 1 second delay and 1 second delay with safe. Maybe one will work better than the other. I've seen plenty of people at the track with stock Associated radios that work fine.

I have tried every combo available with the stock electronics as the RTR came. Not 1 was consistent on either vehicle. I will try what was mentioned above and eliminate the RTR radio gear, and see if that fixes it. I really hope it does, because I really want an RC8.2E RTR, but am terrified to pull the trigger thinking I will get another car with these issues. If I do get the RC8.2E, I would be swapping in a Futaba receiver anyway, so if this solves my SC10B issues, I will be more confident in pulling the trigger on that purchase.

The worst part is that I feel bad selling these cars on Craigslist when I am ready to move on to another car because of these issues. But if I feel bad selling them used, how does Associated have the audacity to sell them new with this issue? I have been researching, and this seems to be a radio related epidemic. I have seen some posts with people not having the issue, but a ton of people that have on various forums. I will post back with my results. This will be the deciding factor on my RC8.2E purchase. I want to replace the radio either way, but I simply can't afford to replace an 1/8th scale ESC.

I use a Spektrum and my son uses a FlySky tx/rx systems. He drive an SC10RS and I recently bought an SC10B and same lame reverse issues. We've been dealing with it, ups and downs. I hope it's just dumb luck.
