Which Combo is Better?
Hey there guys. I'm looking into shopping for a 17.5T Motor/ESC combo that I also plan on dropping a 13.5T motor in for mod racing in the spring. So far, I've narrowed it down to two choices: A Novak vs. Hobbywing. I've searched and couldn't find anything specifically to these two systems:
Hobbywing: http://www.hobbypartz.com/07e-combo-js5.html Novak: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXBPVB&P=ML I'm leaning towards the hobbywing based on what I've read about Novaks giving up early. I also like that it comes with a programming card, and it just looks like a solid system overall. I've had good luck with hobbywing in the past, but out of those two systems, which one would you choose? I know I asked about 1/8 systems previously, but this time its a 1/10 system. |
Neither of those are truly mod capable escs. You want something more powerful. A 13.5 is not really mod either, you will get beat very quickly by people running their faster winds.

http://www.falconsekido.com/products...s-esc-for-10th Both of these escs are mod capable, and are better than what was listed. Then just pick a motor of you choosing. |
first, nobbywings are great and I would stay away from the novak. Seconly, never shop at hobbypartz for hobbywing. They offer no warranty. If you want a hobbywing, shop here.

Or You could get this ESC:

Or you could get this one, it comes in red, black, or blue! |

$36 vs $101 vs $186?
They are most likely smoother escs too, with more features, which to some, is priceless. |
Thanks guys! Those are expensive though I've got to say! The $102 ESC I'm good with...is there a lower cost motor that would work as well? If there isn't, then I'll just cough up the cash for that motor. I don't think they'll be having any black friday deals..or so it seems.
Thanks for the advice on staying away from hobbypartz for hobbywing systems. I'll use falconsekido. EDIT: Hmmm how about these two ESC's? http://www.falconsekido.com/products...t-pro-esc-blue http://www.falconsekido.com/products/xerun-90a-sd-bk |
The $36 and $101 ESC are the same. They use same software, I have one and can use HW programing box. The only difference is warranty, but you could get almost three HK esc for one HW.

use the just stock esc and the motor I linked. it really is the best bang for the buck. personally I would not get the led card either, to hard to use, just get the lcd.
this is what I would get. Motor: Xerun v10 $83 http://www.falconsekido.com/products/xerun-v10-motor Esc Jusr stock $49.99 http://www.falconsekido.com/products...c-esc-for-1-10 LCD Program Box. lets you easyly make changes and hook to your pc for firmware changes. $26.99 http://www.falconsekido.com/products/lcd-program That is about $150 with free shipping. I really think you will be more happy with all of that. If you really really really want to save more money, you can check out the Speedpassion 17.5 and 13.5 motors on ebay. These: I bought from this guy. He is solid. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Speed-Passio...item1c391e3fcf With the HW just stock esc, the lcd programmer and the Speed Passion 17.5, you looking at around $110 shipped. I ran the SP 17.5 motor and it seemed plenty fast. the MMM version has a little more timing. But to keep it simple and make one order, I would go with the HW stuff I listed. |

Thanks! I'll probably go with the SP motor since my budget is pretty tight. But that ESC and program card look like a good plan.
