Default battery charger

My son wants a new charger for xmas but i dont know alot about them other than how to use them. He wants a four port to charge four batteries.what are some good chargers. Also i see in the details of chargers they boast on higher wattages. I though you could only charge a battery so quick What are the advantages to this. What are the advantages of a power supply or what should i look for in a high end charger. I charge 2,3 and 4 cell lipos I also carry my honda gen set for power at races. I also have a venom and reedy charger now.

usually higher watt chargers can charge at higher amp settings. Yes, batteries have a charging limit, but on some batteries that limit is very high, so a higher amp charger will get it charged quicker. There are ac and dc chargers. Batteries are charged through dc current. A power supply converts the ac current coming from the source( ie a wall socket) to dc current, higher end chargers usually come with no built in power supply, they let you pick one. Some chargers come with the powersupply built in too though.

When buying a charger buy it as an investment. Look for something that does as much as your price allows. Something that can charge at 10 amps or more per outlet would be good to.

For charging typical car 4S lipos look for at least 80 to 100 watts or more per channel. The common 50 watt chargers are very slow on larger packs.

Full voltage times amps = charger watts needed.
