Just confirmed from Horizon Tech support. You can not downgrade. R2.1 is the newest firmware and DSM and DSM2 are no longer available. AKA don't upgrade!!!

Anyone want a new DX4S?

How much for those cheater 4210 receivers? I don't have any old spektrum gear, so I dont think it matters if it works with dsm or dsm2.

It's not the "cheater" receivers that are the problem. It is every telemetry receiver, every marine receiver, and every clone receiver. I gave away my dsm2 receivers and I would have returned the radio if I wasn't having so much fun with the AVC system.

What a Christmas let down........I bought the DX4S and I checked the manual before I left the store for rx compatibility, it's pg 9. So, I have about 20 SR300 rxs that it won't bind to and half a dozen Orange rx that it won't bind too. After 8+ years of of happily using my DX3R I just had the fun sucked out of Xmas.

My SR300 works with my DX4R, & so does my SR3100

Blue MX SR3100 clones work and are only 10$ each

I think some people post BEFORE reading back a few posts.

Nothing outside of DSMR works with the R2.1 firmware...and I agree that it sucks.

I probably should have returned the radio but I liked the AVC features. For anyone who hasn't upgraded to R2.1 of the firmware DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!! All it does is remove support for DSM and DSM2.

So the DX4S is NOT backwards compatible anymore when it once was, BUT DX4R Pro IS still Backwards compatible? A stay on old firmware deal if you have the DX4S.
I checked a few days ago and the latest firmware was 1.03 and I'm on it.

I had no plans to do any firmware updates on my DX4S nor my kid's DX4C, but thanks for the info. My kid runs the SR201 (DSM), so good to know.

Weird they would do that, I hope it's not going to happen with the Pro, I'm gonna hold out on any update with the 4R Pro until after I know it still works with older RX.

On the Spektrum site they still have DSM2 marked as compatible with the DX4S and DX4C. They even specifically say the DX4S is backwards compatible so people can use old RX..

It's good to hear that my older version radio has more value than the new.

I'm pissed because the firmware is already updated, I didn't do it, and the manual still states that DSM is supported. I guess I'll see what it would take to fix my old DX3R and If I have to replace all my rx, it may be the time to try another brand. Horizon will get a call tomorrow morning. I have no worries about the orange rx, it's not their problem and it wouldn't have stung so bad if they didn't lie and just stated the truth in the manual. Treat your customers like crap and you'll lose your customers. It's time for me to upgrade my stick tx and it won't be a Spektrum product.

Can't you just return it for a full refund?

Sure I can. I still need a new tx though and every car, boat and truck I own has an existing SR300, SR200 or Orange rx. It's a giant pain driving an hour to the LHS (not very local), I don't like the drop down on the DX4R. I guess I look for old stock DX3R, more of a pain in the butt. If the manual didn't say supports DSM I wouldn't have bought it to start with.

It even says it's backwards compatible on the website and the update section says coming soon, so you can't even download any updates rite now. Maybe they are fixing it and going to make it backwards compatible again because it says rite on the website you can use it with old receivers so that's false advertising so they are going to have to do something

The Drop down is easily converted to normal, then its exactly like the DX4S as far as overall shape, but the R you can adjust the trigger size and tension on the wheel and trigger.

4R gets you more features and backwards compatible on the latest firmware.

Possibly this may be fixed for 4S with a following update.
