Hmmm...I can't say the same.

I just ordered two of the 4400mah 60c batteries and I am really looking forward to trying it out. Just looked at the 100c batteries mentioned above, would I really notice a difference between those two?

This will be my first SMC product and I am looking forward to it. I like their business and I would rather support the smaller businesses focusing on specific items. From his Facebook it appears that he checks a lot of his batteries to make sure they are within spec and good customer service.

Thanks in advance.

Well, the 4000mah 100C shorty has been out for a while. What are your thoughts?

I run it in 17.5 buggy, 7.5 buggy, and 7.5 SCT. So far it has been a solid battery. Charges/discharges even, no puffing.

I can't tell the difference between it, 2-year old Racer's Edge, and Pro-Match I own.

Time will tell how it holds up. So far pretty good.

I ask because I am thinking of getting another one. Either that or the new Pro-Match.

I pre ordered 2 of the 4000 100c packs when Danny first started offering them. I typically run mod 2wd buggy, 4wd buggy and mod SC and charge the batteries around 10-15 amps (depends on how much time I have before the next heat). My local track recently had a stock only race and I used the batteries in stock 2wd buggy and 13.5 4wd. I discharged the batteries @ 30amps to 6.3 volts and then immediately charged them at 40 amps all weekend. IR according to my SkyRC 1400w charger was in the 2-3 ohm range after each charge. The batteries worked well all weekend and none of them swelled, puffed or burst into flames.

Well, I had a 2 month old 4s shorty drop a cell last weekend. Between that happening and all but 2 of the other 6-4s packs I have cracking cases, I'm done with SMC's 4s packs. I'll still run their 2s packs because I haven't had issues with them YET. I know their packs are a great price but if all of the larger packs are going to crack, I see no value in them with having to keep on replacing them. I contacted Danny about the cracked packs and he offered to sell me ONE pack at a discounted price. Haven't contacted him yet about the one that dropped a cell but don't really have high expectations at this point. I thought maybe it was just something that I've done wrong but I've heard a few others that I race with locally talk about the same issue. I've pushed their products on several of my fellow racers, spent lots of money with them and spoke highly of their products on several posts here. Can't really in good conscience do that anymore. Good luck to all of you who run their batteries. Hope yours turns out better than mine. I have, however, had great luck with their motors. Sorry to post such a negative reply but I'm quite bummed about the service from them at this point.

Definitely great to know! Sorry about the packs, it sucks to have a newer item conk out like that and not get a speedy resolution. I only run 2s so hopefully everything goes well.

Thinking about getting the 2S 6700mah 60C pack. Currently have a Turnigy Nanotech 5800mah 30C and a TrakPower 6000mah 80C.

The trakpower is finally puffing so I need a replacement for it. Trying to save some money by going with SMC.

SMC batteries are awesome! I have two for my 1/8 Ebuggy and they last me 45 min each! that's right 45 minutes  I use the 6500 mah 4s lipos.

I have to call BS ,here. I been doing this for many years and what you describe tells me that your battery was not secure in the car. Not isolated with any foam or protection in any way. I am sure there was a crash / bashing or something that produced this. SMC has been in this game a very long time and has had quality products. Danny recognizes when testing something is not up to par, and will not ship bad product out. I own probably 15+ batteries and 5 of them are SMC. Those are the ones that get run just as much as my Orion packs that cost twice as much , yet similar performance. I am not sponsored , I pay for my hobby.

Your battery that dropped a cell, if you can, I'd check the voltage of each cell. It's possible that your charger won't recognize cells when they drop below a certain voltage. This happened to me. Turns out my LVC was set too low(stock setting on my ESC), my charger(a Hitec x4) wouldn't see one of the cells because the voltage had dropped too low. Once the battery got charged and the cell came back above the voltage, it worked fine. It's worth a shot trying if you haven't already.

Mikeand22 02-14-2016 06:01 AM

On a side note, I have 4 6500 mah 4s batteries from SMC. I've had them since December of 2014. I charge at 1c, place them in storage mode every weekend after racing. I have had no puffing or cracking. I would believe that if the case to the batteries was cracking, there were some rather harsh crashes.

I pay for my hobby as well. As for them being secured, there's plenty of padding in the trays. I don't bash at all and keep my batteries strapped in quite tightly. I have an email from Danny stating his awareness of some of the larger packs being more brittle. Still didn't make any difference in warranty claim bUT did say he'd let his supplier know of the problem. So, apparently this isn't a new or isolated issue to my experience. I've been racing since the mid 90's and know how to strap in a pack so don't come on here telling me that this is BS. I'm not the only one at my track that's had this issue. I'm not on here trying to attack SMC. Honestly, I've supported them in many of my previous posts. I've actually been accused of being a sponsored driver of theirs by others on here because I always pushed their products. That being said, I cant, in good conscience, recommend their larger packs to anyone. I have a total of 11 SMC lipos and will continue to buy their smaller bodied packs. I have 3 motors from them, ranging from 2wd ST (7.5t), 4wd sct (4500kv) and the 1900 in my MP9E. All these have been flawless, couldn't be happier.

I'm running the new 100c in my SCT and they are amazing...

I'm a huge SMC guy, and I have to say I believe him. I've had numerous cases crack. I think there was just a bad batch of cases because when I replaced them, I had no issues.

As far as dropping a cell, yup... I've had that happen too. Last winter I had two 5000mAh 4cells each drop 1 cell. I wasn't running them, so about once a month I would throw a cycle through them and put them in storage. One month I went in and looked and both packs were 3 cells... perfectly balanced.

With that being said, Danny has ALWAYS been there and replaced the packs.
