Any plans for stick packs with 5mm bullets?

QDRHRSE 07-09-2014 08:30 PM

My 3500s just arrived. I'll try them out on Friday and report back. I'm not sure if I'll run an rb6 or b5 but they're both stock and MM.

Danny did some testing on the 5mm bullets and they had higher resistance than the 4mm. I think he tested another companies pack so who knows if it was smaller than SMC's tabs off the cells or the 5mm bullets that was adding resistance.. odd since you would think more contact area, less resistance. That was around the time that he stopped posting in this thread so we never heard anything further.

I would image if he saw a benefit to it, he would have changed to 5mm... at least for the sct lipos (6500 & 7200).

When I have a pack split, I glue them with super glue, then wrap with electrical tape to hold together until dry, or leave it on. I picked up some 5800 70c square packs and they are doing great. I became tired of dealing with the saddles, what a hassle. No more, love these and plenty of power and last easily through the races. I am running a DESC410R, and these are tight. They will also fit the DEX410 as well.

The testing i did with the 3500 was very successful. They held up great for a 5 minute heat race and I think they will make a 7 minute main. I notice no power drop off at all in my B5M. It worked the same with a 17.5 and 13.5. I'm going to buy more.

How about handling? Did the reduction in weight make the car drive different? Improved lap times? How much change in ride height?

I just wanted to make a quick comment here for anyone on the fence about trying SMC packs.

I was , made the switch , and will never look back. I had a odd request for how I needed to be invoiced which was no problem, got the packs the next day , cells were all within .01 of each other. Battery was noticably better than my other pack and overall I couldnt be happier.

I also ran the 3500mah lipos in my 17.5 B5M in the heats (5mins) and Main (7mins) and they worked fine, I did not notice any power fade. I did notice it pushed a little more with the lighter pack (I also ran a heavier 4.2mah pack for comparison). I ran the pack in the rear most position (traction) and I need to try it a bit more forward to see if it reduces the push. Going with a lighter pack does requires some setup changes, which I am still working on.

I was just wondering if they are still using the very-thin cases. I had some packs last season and while they performed really well, they did swell a bit. I know they were saying it's normal but no other packs I've used ever do this, except for a nano-tech. Anyway, just kind of checking in as I plan to buy 3 shorties very soon.

i wanted to order 2 lipo batteries from smc

i live in europe and there doesn't seem to be a distributor here
their webshop only ships to the USA and asks to email for a quote to [email protected] if ordering from outside the US

i emailed 5 days ago and didn't get any response

do they deliver to Europe? is their sales division this busy?

Still thin

You shouldn't have any issues with a shorty, maybe a big mah SCT pack. I've ran the high C pack in my stock buggy since September and it's flat as a setup board. Granted its a 17.5 in a 2wd but even a 5.5 in a wheeler still doesn't put that much stress on a good pack.

Micah123 07-24-2014 04:02 PM

Ran the 3500 in my bm5 at last nite race. Fine for 5 min qualifiers but I am pretty sure I noticed a drop off in the 7 minute main. Will continue to monitor and will report back. Made around 6 practice laps before main started so will not do that again. Maybe that will make up the difference. Also learned that the 3500 does not have as much power as the 4600. Do not know if I felt a diff but will continue to compare. Buggy felt snappier with lighter battery. Only adjusted ride height so far.
