MMM goes from forward to reverse?
#1
I just finished converting a LST-XXL and while for the most part all seems ok, I seem to have an issue with the ESC.
Last night I decided to do a little test run and when going forward on the transmitter, the wheels went backwards. Not a big deal, reverse 2 of the wires on the motor to the ESC. Ran it and besides a couple small issues, it ran forward and reverse according to the input on the transmitter.
Was going to run again today and after installing the battery, the throttle directions were reversed. So I reverse 2 of the wires again. Ran good but 5 minutes in after stopping, again the throttle direction reversed. WTH?
I have never heard of this, is there something I'm missing?
New Castle MMM with a slightly used 1800Kv motor. Spectrum DXR controller with SR3100 receiver if any of that matters. Can anyone shed some light?

I was going to bring this thread back up again as after going thru a couple batteries today, it switched on me at least 4/5 times.
Most of the times, it reversed itself to the correct orientation after a couple minutes of driving/stopping and throttle/brake went back to normal. But the last time it did it, it decided to keep throttle/reverse switched backwards. I called it a day at that point.
Reversing the throttle input on the transmitter switches it but its not right. I'm not sure how to put it but braking and acceleration are not correct.
I'm thinking its a ESC problem but Castle has never heard of this last time I called.
Maybe another call is in order.

Besides the TX throttle reverse, do you have a castle link? Is there a reverse motor function in it? That's usually the best way to go, if not reverse the TX.
what TX are you using? Some require being reversed.
Update the esc with castle link?
Did you swap A & C? Or was B swapped?

I dont think you guys are getting it.
The throttle/brake function reverses when I'm running the truck. This is not a one time thing. Its good for awhile THEN it decides to switch. Sometimes a few minutes later, it will magically go back to normal. SOMETHING is switching the controls, whether it is my Tx, ESC or even something else.

Ok, time to send the esc in for repair. No reason for you to be setup correctly and then you switch to reverse when you are throttling forward... randomly. Hopefully castle will cover you, but who knows, you may be spending some cash.
What happened when you switched motor wires? Reversed and then you reverese the TX? And it did the same thing sporadically?

Well after talking to another Castle rep today (who says he's been with them quite a long time) has never heard of this problem but did suggest that its either a motor problem or my Tx. An ESC will NOT cause the controls to reverse on its own.
Ok, fair enough.
He says run it without the body and when it the controls decide to reverse, check the speed control. If its green going forward, then its a Tx issue. If its red, motor out of phase (unlikely but possible) I'll check that this week.
To fq06, when this first started happening, yes, I swapped 2 of the motor wires and controls were normal.....BUT the truck was almost like in training mode, like I put in a 3S lipo instead of the 5S that was in there. When it switched back, I again swapped 2 of the motor wires and the truck got all its power back. So I stopped swapping and just drove around till it went back to normal. Now its to the point where I have to find the cause and fix it since it seems to be getting worse.

Well tried a Airtronics Tx and Rx today, same thing. While testing tho, at one point, the truck didn't move when giving it throttle....just a big "whirr" like if your pinion lost its mesh.
Put it on a stand and took off the cover, nope, mesh is good. Checked slipper clutch setting, nope, thats good. Turned it on and gave it throttle, spur turned but not the tires. Tried a quick burst of throttle and all of a sudden it "clunked" into gear.
Transmission.....great.
Called Horizon to get some input and I was lucky enough to talk to a rep that actually owns a converted LST-XXL. After telling him of the issues, he knew right away what was going on.
To cut it short, what I need is the "forward only" transmission conversion kit and that should fix all my issues. He explained it to me pretty good but I won't go into it all the details. Wish I knew about this sooner.
