Need some help in finding the right servo
#1
So I 'm running a Caster EX-1 converted to a Roar legal SCT. I love the truck but am having issues with the steering. It requires a 180oz/in servo or better minimum.
I'm currently using a Tower MG995 (the 208oz/in one). The servo is great for power and speed but doesn't center well. I'm looking for a cheaper (don't have a lot of money) servo, preferably one of the generic/Hobbyking etc. servos which have the power and speed but are good with centering.
I race on a carpet indoor track so the centering issue drives me mental. My truck can out turn any truck on the track, but I'm constantly compensating so that's killing me.

The cheap, generic Chinese brand servos are known for their centering issues. The only way one of those would fix your problem would be pure luck; you get the 1 out of 100 that doesn't buzz and shake at center.
You're going to have to bite the bullet and buy a higher-quality servo for a truck that heavy. Something like an AE XP 1015 would work great in your vehicle. Otherwise, look at something from Savox but beware brownouts, i.e. use a glitch buster on your receiver from the start.

Hmmm, that's what I was afraid of.
So what is the best (and TRY to keep affordability somewhere in the discussion) servo for 1/8th scale? What are the minimum stats I should look at?

200oz/in, under 0.14 would be the minimum spec I'd want for that. Unfortunately, affordable and 1/8th scale are an inherent contradiction. As such, I'm really stumped to recommend anything specific that would still be considered affordable.

I'm thinking of buying a used servo, like the Ace DS1015. That seems to be popular. Should I also look into a 6V Bec?

Yeah, I'm seeing that. Would running a BEC make a difference in a servos performance. My gear is Hobbyking 120amp ESC, Flysky GT3B radio, Tenshock 401 4000KV motor and Towerpro 995MG servo. The Towerpro servo is great except that it doesn't center well enough.

The Ace 1015 is the same as the AE/XP one I liked to a few posts up so it would be a good way to go. I've used one in my Losi SCTE for a while now and it works great. For lower torque or higher-speed apps, I like the Futaba BLS series but I can vouch for the 1015 as well.
