OOOPS, DO YA THINK I DAMAGED IT ?

so i was hooking up my castle BEC up to my new castle mmp and i forgot to remove the red wire from the esc lead. i noticed it when the on/off switch didnt matter.

i didnt have it on like that for long, maybe 20-40 seconds. do you think i did any damage ? it seems to be working fine.

thanks

You should be fine. The input voltage is in parallel so it doesn't increase but the double feed may affect the internal BEC of the ESC and the Castle's is sort of weak current wise.

I usually use a very short aileron extension with the positive lead disconnected so I don't weaken the ESC's RX plug's lead (that way I don't have to power up the ESCs when programing them with the PC).

Plug it in normally without the external BEC if you want to see if the internal BEC is damaged. If it did burn it should work with the external deal, but you won't be able to run it without (or a receiver battery).

thanks guys. will let ya know.

well i powered it up on the bench with out the BEC and it worked till i moved the servo and it started browning out.(spektrum 6030 servo). i put a glitch buster in and it worked fine.

so i dont know...i put the bec back in and it works.so..

That certainly seems like enough servo to cause a brown out on the MMP bec. You could try again with a lower power servo and see if it doesn't brown out without the glitch buster to make sure.

That sounds normal with Castle speedos and Savox/Spektrum servos.

well i ran today and had no issues with the esc (using the castle BEC) ill have to check the esc with a lesser servo to see if the esc bec is still good.

that 6030 has a ridiculous amount of torque. Are you running a fifth scale or maybe bigger? because that servo is overkill for anything smaller.

stickys 08-13-2012 01:55 PM

Disagrees, I have several tenth scales with over 400oz servo and they need it.

stickys 08-13-2012 01:58 PM

It does sound like your esc is ok, electronics differ from mechanical in that usually one piece in a system fails it will bring down or glitch other areas as well.

twisted 08-13-2012 08:58 PM

i have that servo in a sc10 4x4... i tested the truck on the bench today with out the castle external bec along with a budget kit servo and it didnt have any issues. so im thinking the bec in the esc is fine. regardless iam running the castle bec as the 6030 just likes to pull some amps.

are they mostly crawlers?

because I run an airtronics 94157 (94 oz-in, .06 sec travel @ 6v) and it's perfect. and no brown-outs.
