motor/esc combo comparison
#1
hey guys,
I burned up the reedy 3300KV I was running in my sc10, so I got a used tekin redline 13.5 off ebay. from the research I did I found that the 13.5 should be roughly comparable to 3500-3800KV. based on what I know this should mean slightly less torque and a little higher rpm for the tekin. if im wrong here correct me.
speed control on the reedy was an xp digital sc700-BL, had to switch over to a mamba max pro for the tekin because its sensored. esc was set to give the motor as much juice as possible on both setups.
Well, I went to the track the other day to test this new tekin/MMP setup. the track was the exact same layout, carpet with jumps, as the last time i ran the reedy/sc700, and the truck was setup the same. with the new motor esc setup I notice significantly less torque and overall power and my lap times were a few seconds slower. everyone else noticed my truck was not running as fast as it used to. had to gear down a bit to get up to speed fast enough to hit some of the jumps out of the corners
so the question is, should I be getting this result, or is the tekin bad? the esc performs fine with other motors attached in other vehicles so im pretty sure thats not the issue. do I need to just step up the a 10.5 motor?

here are the settings on the mmp:
auto lipo cutoff
with reverse
100% brake
0% drag brake
100% max forward power
50% reverse
punch control disabled
high start power
sensored only mode, cheat mode disabled
linear throttle/brake curves
timing advance on the back of the motor is set as high as possible (20 degrees or so)
if the motor is getting old would replacing the rotor bring it back to life, or would it be better to just get a new one?

Well its hard to say for sure that it would, but it should. Rotors will lose strength over time no matter what. Your settings look right on your esc. although if you wanted you could add some boost to the tekin. say 4500 start....20,000 stop try adding 20degrees and check temps. My brother runs the exact same setup in his sc10 mmp/tekin 13.5...he bought the motor new and he has been trying to get the speed out of it and has had lots of trouble. He has tried all kinds of gearing and timing with his mmp and it just doesnt seem to be much faster than my blinky D3 17.5 with max can timing. I seem to think its just his speed controller either bad or just not as good as my Tekin rs that i run...
