I've always understood that a LiFe receiver pack means you don't need to use a regulator...but it's just occurred these kick ou nearly 7 bolts usually? Presumably so do 5 cell Nimh receiver packs?

So can a receiver actually handle more than 6v or do I need a regulator?

Also, if it can handle the LiFe etc, does it also mean I can up my castle BEC voltage on my elec 8th to say 6.5v rather than 6 safely enough?

2s life has a nominal voltage of 6.6v, will be around 7.2v straight off the charger

Voltage limit depends on the brand of your receiver / servo

Some receivers are good to 9.6V and others only 4.8V. It's best to check on what yours is rated at and when in doubt stay at 6V or below.

95% of all RXs today can handle 8+ volts. I say 8 because electronics has a tollerance just like anything else. with batteries starting to kick out more power and voltage, it would be unwise for manufacturers to keep them at 6. A fully charged 2s LiPo is 8.4 vdc. A full charged LiFe is about 7.6 and I have seen NiMh and NiCd packs as high as 8 volts.

You will be ok to run an LiFe with out a regulator and as far as upping the BEC, You could be ok. Just as long as you keep you battery charged above what ever you set it at. once the pack is below that, it will start to become slugish.

Yup. A fully charged 5 cell NiMh is around 8 volts for a short period. Most radio receivers can probably handle a 2S LiPo without a voltage regulator. But do it at your own risk.
