Default Mamba max pro failure

Was running my pede 4x4 today having a grand time then poof. Noticed smoke coming from under the body. I quickly unplugged the battery and my mmp was dead on me. Had just installed a savox 0251 servo, a set of MIP x duty rear shafts and a brand new onyx 3s battery. Called castle and the tech guy sounded baffled as to what might have happened. Said the setup I was running should have no problems. Hope I don't have to wait to long on the repair. I bought it last month.

Too tall geared ? Or too much servo for the bec ?

Think the servo might be the cause? I just installed the servo today.

I'd test the servo before you use it again. Best to hook a 4.8 or 6 volt battery pack to the "B" input on the receiver without the ESC hooked up. It can now be tested without worry of burning another ESC. Check to see if it gets hot or acts up while your using the radio control.

I would check the battery and servo. The new battery might have been bad as well. Normally when the bec fails on a castle mmp it just glitches and shuts off, and does not go up in smoke. Weird.

Was told today by a castle tech the savox servo needs an external bec to run safely with the mamba

Here's the specs for the servo you listed http://www.savoxusa.com/ProductDetai...Show=TechSpecs.
If you look at the stall current (at locked) at 6.0 volts you'll see 3200mA which equals 3.2 amps. If you look at the stall for 4.8 volts it's 2700mA = 2.7 amps. The MMP has a default BEC setting of 5.5 volts so unless you've changed the BEC voltage it should be fine without an external BEC.

You could still have a bad servo or just got unlucky and the ESC died.

What is the maximum voltage you can set the internal bec to? Really want to up it to 6.0 volts at least if possible. I have had some minor twitching/glitching with my 277 oz. in. hobbico servo but nothing too bad. Noticed you posted something about this in the 4x4 pede thread.

It's 7 volts.
That servo might be drawing too much power for the BEC and that might be causing the twitching/glitching.
After looking at the specs for the Savox 0251 @222.2 oz.in. / .18 speed @ 6 volts I'd say that a little over 200 oz.in. is about the limit for a 3 amp BEC @ 6 volts, as a rule.

I just stuck an sv2 sidewinder controller in the pede to see what would happen and it worked fine. This was running on 2s because the sidewinder has a deans and the new 3s I was running when then failure occured had a traxxas plug to match the mmp. So I'm thinking it was the esc that failed or the battery is bad although it ran for ten or so minutes before the speed control smoked on me.

Guys I could use some advice. I want to get another mamba max pro but i don't know if I should just get a bec or run the esc stock with the savox? I really like the speed and torque it gave me to the stock servo.

The Savox should be fine with the stock MMP's 3amp BEC as long as the servo isn't defective.
Run it with the default 5.5 volts.

YEA.........good luck with that! I`ve been waiting about 2 months now and every-time I talk to them they tell me it should go out this week. The Castle service is really getting bad, most likely due to lots of dead speed controls. This is just my opinion.
