Castle experience
Be aware, per castle support, if you run a strong servo (savox 1257 in my case) you will need a BEC with the SCT combo, a capacitor is not enough. Ordering a Viper to replace the smoldering crater in the middle of my truck, I'll let you know how it fares

Thanks for the kind words guys. We developed this system specifically for 4wd SC, all the testing and development was done in 4wd SC, but drivers of all different levels of experience. Yes, to answer one of the earlier comments, we go a little conservative on the gearing recommendations, better safe than sorry, especially because today's current batteries can run longer and the motor and speed control can handle if not geared or set up properly. A note on the ProGauge, its not required for the Copperhead, but it does help fine tune adjustments. It can also help check your radio signal strength and monitor your battery performance.
Please let us know if you have any other questions. |
So I've owned and ran both of these combos. I run a Losi SCTE, and the sidewinder would overheat because of the trucks weight. Now that the Sidewinder comes with a fan on it, it's doing okay in the Losi's. The 3800 motor is a wicked motor. The downfall of the Castle stuff is most certainly the internal bec. I had to run the external bec, because I run a Savox servo in my truck. If the external bec goes bad though, like mine did, it will drive you insane.
So with that said, I have been running the CopperheadR with the 4500kv motor from Viper. This setup is sooo totally different. I don't think that I will be running anything other than this system for as long as I race sct's. This esc runs just about as smooth as the sensored systems. The guys that run Tekin rx8's thought that I had gotten a sensored system if that says anything! The 4500kv motor is strong enough to hang with any motor on the market, has TONS of low end torque, and gets my truck around an outdoor 1\8 scale with no problems. The Viper reps that I have spoken to have all been excellent as well. No complaints in that department at all. So if I were to recommend a system to you, I would say Viper all the way. Hope this helps. |

Yeah, and the BEC has been a known issue. In fact, they even recommend their external BEC. It seems like they could either sell them together or actually modify the BEC and just update their ESC. |
