Receiver Antenna Mod
#1
I've searched around on the forums (this one and a few of the other more frequented ones online), and even had to resort to the wonderful vagueness of searching through the results from numerous Google searches. Can't find a thing on anyone doing this..
So I was wondering if anyone has been able to [successfully] replace their standard 'wired antenna' on their receiver, with one of the folding, molded plastic ones, that are more commonly seen on transmitters.

I believe the connection on the actual receiver board-itself, is called a U.FL Mini. I'm also fairly certain that replacement transmitter antenna's, available from the manufacturer, also use the same connector. Could these possibly be used?
Now I'm certainly not an RF Engineer, nor have I ever studied that area (apparently, LOL), so please don't chastise me or make me contact the good folks behind StopBullying.org. haha
I was just fiddling around with some of my cars today and that popped into my head.. So, I thought I'd ask!
lol
Thanks fellas! If anything, it's something that we can all learn and find out together!? Right?

See, I was thinking that!
However, the more I looked into it on Google and such, and some of the other more 'DIY-savvy' forums (i.e., HeliFreak... lol those dudes take it to a WHOLE DIFFERENT level! haha), I've heard of differences with Polarization, Diversity, Gain Patterns, etc..
Seems simply straight-forward, as you and I both seem to think, but maybe it's not..? lol

It would work I reckon, but don't think anyone would do this mod (on a land vehicle anyway) because:
- need to mod the radio box in such a way to accommodate the size of the moulded plactic antenna, and then find a way to 'fix' it in place (could press-fit the base through the hole drilled into the radio box I suppose)
- the likelihood of snapping it off in a crash, as opposed to a flexible plastic antenna tube which has plenty of give in it and is cheap as chips from a LHS
Marks for thinking outside the square though!
