Esc Updates and BIN files.
#1
Does anyone here know what sorts of things get updated with new firmware releases from ESC manufacturers? Are they usually just glitch fixes, or is there something more? If one wanted to look at a .bin file in the correct context (eg: ESC settings.) would it require a specific program?
I'd like to learn how this stuff works. Thanks!

Generally the updates are improvements on the dynamic timing advance features (aka ramping, boost, etc) to improve performance of ‘stock’ brushless motors. The programs are generally available on the manufacturer’s sites.
Somewhat falling out of favor as the stock class is trying to move back to it’s intended role as a slower class with ESC no timing rules, commonly referred to as ‘blinky’. Blinky meaning the special light sequences that indicate the no timing mode.

Thanks for the reply. I've actually just updated the software in my ESC. We're running in blinky mode with spec esc/motor combos. There had been some glitching in the systems and we're hoping the updates corrects that.
I downloaded a hex editor program today to look at the .bin file. Of course it was just groups of numbers arranged in rows, so, complete gibberish essentially. Imvguessing that without learning a programming language, I won't get much further with this.
