howieberry, The T stands for "turns", how many turns of wire there are on the armature. The lower the number of turns the faster and more torque the motor has. A 12 turn would be fast in a brushed use. any more power needed, I would go brushless http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...mbo-Waterproof . this is a really good set up.
I have used this in my SC10 the last two years, tuff as nails.

You mite wont to try these , I have been running these for three years and wont go back too nicads, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

This is a good charger http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...wer_COPY_.html

thank you for the help but just one more question. dose the waterproof xl5 have a low voltage cut off i was told it dose and that it dosnt so i dont know. i already picked up two 5000mAh 7.4 v 30c lipos and i have a charger / balencer but once again thank you for the help i will pick up those batteries and the brushless system once i get the evader brushless edition trans. the gear pitch is better for a more powerful system like the vxl.

• 15-Turn Motor Limit: The XL-5 has a 15-turn modified motor limit for
540 size motors and a 12-turn modified motor limit for 550 size motors

MANUAL:
http://traxxas.com/products/parts/es...flvd-downloads

THIS IS A QUOTE FROM TRAXXAS :
http://traxxas.com/products/parts/escs/xl5waterprooflvd

XL-5™ Waterproof FWD/REV ESC
with Low Voltage Detection (LVD)
Designed and engineered by Traxxas, the XL-5 Electronic Speed Control handles the elements while smoothly supplying power to the motor. This high-performance ESC is packed with impressive specifications that are normally only found on more expensive high-end replacement units. The XL-5 features a completely waterproof design, three throttle profiles, Thermal Shutdown Protection, 4-8 cell compatibility, and built-in BEC. High frequency operation combined with ultra-low resistance make the XL-5 an efficient and ultra-smooth fully proportional speed control. An exclusive feature on the XL-5 is the patent pending Training Mode™. This profile reduces the overall power output of the XL-5 by 50% making it easier for young or new drivers to develop their control skills before unleashing full-power operation. XL-5 is equipped with two-stage low voltage detection (LVD) to allow LiPo battery use.

LED Codes and Protection Modes
• Solid Green: XL-5 power-on light. Low-Voltage Detection is ACTIVATED
(LiPo setting).
• Solid Red: XL-5 power-on light. Low-Voltage Detection is DISABLED
(NiMH setting). Never use LiPo batteries while Low-Voltage Detection
is disabled

Low-Voltage Detection Settings
_______________________
The XL-5 speed control includes Low-Voltage Detection circuitry for
use with LiPo batteries. This feature can be disabled for use with NiMH
batteries. The Low-Voltage Detection circuitry constantly monitors the
battery voltage. When the battery voltage begins to reach the minimum
recommended discharge voltage threshold for LiPo battery packs, the
XL-5 will limit the power output to 50% throttle. When the battery
voltage attempts to fall below the minimum threshold, the XL-5 will shut
down all motor output. The LED on the speed control will slowly blink
red, indicating a low-voltage shutdown. The XL-5 will stay in this mode
until a fully charged battery is connected.
Be certain Low-Voltage Detection is enabled if you install LiPo batteries
in your model. Never use LiPo batteries while Low-Voltage Detection
is disabled.
Verify that Low-Voltage Detection is DISABLED:
1. Turn on the transmitter (with the
throttle at neutral).
2. Connect a fully charged battery
pack to the XL-5.
3. Press and release the EZ-Set button
to turn the XL-5 on. If the LED is solid RED, then the Low-Voltage
Detection is DISABLED (not safe to use LiPo batteries). If the LED is
solid GREEN, then Low-Voltage Detection is ACTIVATED.
To activate Low-Voltage Detection (LiPo setting):
1. Make sure the LED on the XL-5
is on and RED.
2. Press and hold the EZ-Set button
(the LED will turn off) (A). After ten
seconds, the motor will beep twice
and the LED will shine GREEN. Release the button (B).
3. Low-Voltage Detection is now ACTIVATED

To disable Low-Voltage Detection (NiMH setting):
1. Make sure the LED on the XL-5 is
on and GREEN.
2. Press and hold the EZ-Set button
(the LED will turn off) (A). After ten
seconds, the motor will beep three
times and the LED will shine RED. Release the button (B).
3. Low-Voltage Detection is now DISABLED
