I've sent this problem to customer service and paul here on the boards but haven't gotten any sort of response yet. Perhaps someone else will have a solution.
I recently purchased the 80a esc with the v550 4200 kv motor. It is installed in a 2wd stampede with a 19t pinion and the stock spur gear which is like 86 I believe. I'm running an 8.4v 4200 nimh pack. The issue I'm having is the esc will reset it self when I'm driving. I'd say the majority of the time it is when I go full throttle which from what I have read has to do with the nimh packs not providing as much current as lipos. I don't have a lipo currently to test it out and see if it resolves the problem. Sometimes however though, it will cut out even when I'm not going full throttle. Also after it cuts out and turns back on, it usually has a big cogging problem and doesn't want to move unless I give it a kick to get it going. Today it was also randomly going full throttle reverse after resetting itself. I do have the glitch capicator installed
Ok, just did some more messing with this truck in the house trying to get it sorted out. The cogging problem is getting worse. I pretty much have to almost give it full throttle to get it moving. In either forward or reverse. Once it starts moving it seems to do ok, but it wont go at a slow speed. If i try to drive very slow it starts cogging and cuts out and resets. The motor and motor wire connection area is also getting hot very quickly while it is doing this. I took off my gear cover so I can see the pinion and spur gear while its doing this. Unless the thing is almost full throttle the pinion could not even get enough power to rotate 1 tooth of the spur gear. It just rocks like its trying to and makes a clicking type sound. I checked the slipper clutch and I adjusted it all the way from the loosest setting all the way to the tightest and its the same thing either way. This is now the 2nd esc I've had this problem with from venom. The 1st one was the exact same but with the v540 3300kv motor. I didn't even get to run that one at all as it had the cogging problem from the get go and I couldn't get it to move what so ever. My LHS (hobbytown) exchanged it for this one. I'm not going to be able to exchange it now with them as it's seen a couple days of use off roading and I had to direct wire the switch as it was also messed up from the get go. Could you advise me on what to do.
I am super agitated right now as I've spent close to 160 now including taxes and haven't gotten to really use either system without some sort of problems. I've flow helis and planes for years with everything from the extremely cheap hobbyking esc's to expensive castle ones and I have never had as many issues as I have with the venom ones in the last 4 days. Currently uploading a video to youtube to show exactly what its doing. Will post soon as its done.

Did you originally run this setup on a nimh battery? I think the problem lies with using nimh batteries at all. My theory is it does something to either the motor or esc. Luckily I got my LHS to finally let me exchange this and went with the velineon which I have had 0 problems with. If I was you I'd try to get wehre you bought it from to exchange it. Venom needs to fix their ****. The guy at CS kept arguing with me that you have to use a lipo only. They should probably put that crap on the box then instead of saying what nimh batteries it is compatible with. I will never in my life by from venom again. I'd also highly discourage anyone else from using any of their products. Me and you are not the only two people that have had this problem. If you go through their customer service you will have to send your stuff to them and wait for them to fix or replace it. If thats the route you are forced to go I'd put it up on craigslist or ebay or whatever and go with the vxl system. That or pick up something from hobbywing.
