The software would always be upgradable, you should be able to have a multitude of channel options, screen/controller layout options, on screen telementry and data logging and so forth, it's endless what could be customized. A fully programable remote control app that could opperate all your toy's and home entertainment needs, I want it. This kind of app would make a meal of companies like logitech and other home based remote manufactures not to mention the rc based like specktrum and fubata.
I things have infra red don't they? Ok for your stereo, but not much good for toys.
There are numerous apps for turning your I thing into a remote.

I think Futaba and Spektrum are safe for now.

I'm of the same opinion, don't think Futaba or the other major players have much to worry about, at least short term.

I know this is about electronics, but suspect you'd have had more discussion posting in the chat room.

I take it you haven't seen Traxxas' new radio, the TQi? Pretty much turns you iPod touch/iPhone into the main settings function of the tx. Shows live telemetry and has all the trims and settings on the screen.
Just thought I'd let you know
