Hi I model 0 gauge ijn the garden R/ C & would like to pick your brains. I use around 14/19mm wheels, 40;1 GEARBOX and mashima flat can motors & am quite happy for my loco to have a top speed of about 50mph scale, thus I do not want a battery pack that gives a short burst for a sudden dash of speed, which is what I imagine the xar boys want. I want low down powerfull GRUNT that lasts.
I usually build my own NiMh pack from tagged AA batts so I can pack them any where within the loco body but I find that the charge does not hold for a long time abd doed not have as much lasting opower as I would like. Am, I economising too much by using the cheapest batts I can get or doesn't it really matter. Any learned adsice would be of great help. Thanks

What size (mah) cells are you using. If they are not at least 2300+mah, you can gain run time by switching to higher capacity cells. You will get better performance from the higher priced cells - they will last and perform better than the cheaper ones, but have to be treated properly.
