Default esc and motor choice

can i run any amp esc with a brushless motor? say, if my motor requires a 35 amp esc can i run anything i like as long as it is above 35amps??? new to electric!!

Motor will have a continuous and burst current rating

ESC will have a continuous and burst current rating

Battery will have a continuous and burst current rating

In an ideal world you want your Battery and ESC's continuous ratings to be higher than your motors burst rating

Example
Motor 40 amp cont, 80 amp burst
ESC 100 amp cont
Battery 100 amp cont (5000mah 20c or above)
