Default Boost adjustment with RS

I picked up a tekin rs today and reading through the instructions there is nothing about boost adjustment. Am I correct that boost adjustments need the hotwire? Thanks
BTW I know there is a RS thread in the onroad section. I have no intrest in trying to sort through 1400 pages of posts in one thread. IMO its time for some subforums around here.

Yes, you need a Hotwire to change timing/boost. If you're going to have the Tekin RS, you might as well have the Hotwire. Otherwise, you could buy just any old ESC.

Assuming the ESC has the latest firmware v212:

You can pick different timing profiles (TP) without the Hotwire. It's the throttle profiles that you can't access without the Hotwire.

You tap the mod button until the led under TP is lit. The using the inc button you can select no timing (Blinky mode) led 1; 15% timing led 1&2; 25% timing led 1,2&3; 35% timing led 1,2,3&4; 45% timing led 1,2,3,4,&5; C1 custom led 1,2,3,4,5,& 6; C2 custom led 1,2,3,4,5,6 & 7. C1 and C2 are only configurable with the Hotwire.

I stand corrected. I was not aware that ability was available (and I have version 212).

How do you know what version it is and is it updatable?

Knowing the version will generally require the Hotwire (unless you buy it from someone that knows what version is on it) and, yes, it is able to be updated. I've updated mine about 4 times since I've had it.

I don't know how far back you'd have to go for that to be true, but I was under the impression that was one of the selling features. The first one I bought was software version 187(?) I think and I went through all the upgrades available as they came out (194(?), 203 and 212).

You have to go way back to before the R1 to have non-upgradable firmware like the G-11.

All of their current ESCs are upgradable.
