Deans Connectors?
#1
I am switching everything I have over to Deans connectors. Is there a standard way of installing them? Most of the used stuff I have has the female connector on the battery and the male on the ESC/charger. is this the normal or accepted way of doing it? Are the Deans an upgrade over Traxxas connectors?

Always use a female connector on the battery. Male plugs normally have the contacts exposed which could result in a short (bad thing
), so yes it's normal. Deans vs. Traxxas, it's all about preference really both work just as well.

Also it is commonly accepted that you wire the positive wire to the vertical post when the connector is oriented so that both the posts side by side.
At least that's how all my batteries that had Deans on them have come.
If you need a photo I can get you one.

correct, if you look close a "real" Deans will have a + sign on the positive side. I'm not sure if the China knock off plugs have this or not.

Deans certainly are the most popular. They make a real solid connection that lasts a long time. Electrical resistance is extremely low, giving the connector excellent performance.
Tamiya connector are low quality and make very poor, high resistance connections.
Bullets are great for ESC to Motor connections. Some racers use hard pack batteries with only bullet connectors.

Dean's are rated for 50amps, but I don't what the TRX connectors are rated for.
I use Deans on almost everything and my data logger says they have taken current spikes up in the 125+amp range. I use Castle 6.5mm bullets on my heavier RCs, those are rated to 200amps.
