HELP with Castle SCT Problems
I've just installed a Castle SCT into my SC10 FT. And i'm getting terrible glitching at the start of the throttle. I'm running a Savox 1258 Servo (also tried a Hitec 7955), Futaba 4PL radio/receiver and Turnigy 5000mah 2s 45c Lipos. The glitching only happens from the start of applying the throttle, forwards and reverse.
I've read a lot about problems and people suggesting an external bec and caps etc, but i've unplugged the servo and removed the pinion and it still does it so i don't think a cap or bec would help. I've also tried rolling back the software to rev 1.30 and 1.31 but it's still the same. Sorry for the long post, but i just wanted to put as much info as i can. Here is a video of the problem: s48.photobucket.com/albums/f210/bikeneil/?action=view¤t=MVI_3665.mp4 |
Try rolling farther back.....

Have you calibrate the ESC to your transmitter with the throttle trim centered and throttle / brake travel (EPA's) at 100% ?
What are your ESC settings ? Cheers |

What motors have you previously used in the car ?
Could be normal cogging associated with a sensorless motor What battery are you using ? What start power do you have configured in the ESC ? Do you have a 3s battery to try ? Easy enough to test if its bec related Plug in another power source to the RX (Receiver pack etc...) and disable the internal bec If it goes away problem is a loaded bec Cheers |

Just tried a 3s 45c from my crawler and it's the same. I've tried all 3 start settings and makes no difference. The batteries i'm using are Turnigy 5000mah 2s 45-90c so i don't think it's those. Could it still be a loaded bec even though it does it without the servo plugged in and the pinion off? |
Wouldnt think so but you cant rule it out
Has been a heap of probs with the Sidewinder lately related to bec's The Castle 4 pole motors can certainly come on in a burst of power if you are not used to them, hence my question on previous motors Cheers |
Off to work now, so i'll try a bec battery pack and remove the red wire just to see if that helps when i get back. I'm beginning to think i should have just gone for a sensored set up. This is my first brushless (although i have been using castle's in brushed crawlers for years without any issues), and i wasn't expecting all this grief.
Thanks again. I'll let you know later what happens :D |
Use a servo extension lead if you have one, makes it easy to remove the red wire without damage
Good luck with it Cheers |
If your problem is only at very very light throttle, then i think youl finds its normal for the CC1410 motors, mine does it but i hardly notice it as i never really drive at very light throttle, youl find being a 4-pole motor also adds to this problem i reckon...Once you run it few times youl probably think its ok..
Also ive read alot of guys think the version 1.26 software is the pick.. |

Also ive read alot of guys think the version 1.26 software is the pick.. I've downloaded the latest from Castle and when i connect the ESC i only get the option of either 1.30, 1.31 of the 1.32 that it came with? Also, there is also a slight, jittery delay when going from neutral to full throttle. |
Im guessing the servo. The internal BEC doesnt have have a reputation of being the strongest and the Savox has a rep for being power hungry. I've had several higher drawing servos cut off Sidewinders. A CC external BEC might solve your issues

I've just tried a Castle external BEC and it's exactly the same. Can't believe it! I don't think it's just because it's un-sensored as the delay and cogging is terrible. Much more than i would expect. Guess i'm just going to have to give up on these and get something else:confused:

mine does the exact same thing man
I have an SC 10 the same motor and tried rolling back the firmware you can email castle for older versions I havent bothered yet I feel your pain the sounds on take off throttle make it sound like your going to blow it up |
I've actually bought 2 of the SCT Systems and me and my dad are going to race SC. So, both trucks and set ups are identical at the moment. I've narrowed the problem down to just one of the esc's. The other one and both the motors work great.
One of the ESC's gets really hot after 30 seconds up and down the road (with no body on) and only has about 60% of the power of the other one. And, it is really glitchy for about 25% of the throttle travel. I've tried the dodgy esc in both trucks with both motors and no matter which motor it's paired up with, it's got no power. And, BOTH esc setting are exactly the same. I've emailed Castle a few times and they replied saying they think the problem is a poor quality battery. Which it isn't. I'm just waiting for Castle to get back to me again as i've asked for it to be replaced (or for me to pay the extra for a MMP). Although i'm really considering just getting a couple of Tekins soon. It sucks to have a couple of trucks built ready to go but not being able to use them  |
Castle Creatinos sidewinder 6900kv
I just installed a sidewinder 6900kv into my old xl-5 rustler. i plugged the battery in and i can get connection from the radio and i can turn front wheels but no power what so ever in the back wheels. Any suggestions on what i can do to fix this?

Sounds like you found your problem. I also have a MMP paired to the 1410 in my sc10. I'm running a savox 1257. Only real difference is I have airtronics radio. I have had no trouble with this setup.

Makes me wary about these for the upcoming SC10 I'm going to build, but I've heard lots of good things about CC CS so that's promising :)
Seems MMP is hard to find without the combo. Im thinking the 2400kv could be a bit overkill for a SC10? |
Depends what voltage you plan to run
If you are racing on 2s the 2400 is not the right option Plenty of other motors that work well on 2s Cheers |

Call castle they have amazing CS over the phone, mine was like this and I called. 2 weeks later I had a new ESC and motor arrive at my door with a prepaid package for returning the old one, the new one fixed the problem.

I think i might have to. I'm in the UK with only a Mobile phone, so it'll be an expensive call :(
And by friend I mean someone you dislike :sneaky: |
My son's SC10 did the same thing with a Sidewinder V2. The car would stutter, take off on it's own, cog, you name it. In his car theproblem was the way the wires were routed and the ESC's proximity to the RX. We moved some things around and moved the ESC away from the RX wires and the problem went away.

I ran a pack and a half yesterday. Had to go home due to exact problems described here. I boxed it up and sent it to castle today. Should I ask for thm to replace it with the mmpro?

If they offer you that option for a few bucks more definitely
Cheers |
im having the same sort of issues.
MMP, Tekin 550 4.5 Motor, Savox 1258 servo running in a sc10 4 x 4. on throttle all is good... as soon as i steer it, the lot pretty much cuts out and i have not steering or throttle for a few seconds... you can hear the servo jittering and motor twitching. All parts have had about 5 mins run time. Has anyone found a cure? |

Sounds like a BEC issue to me.
yeah after all the reading ive been doing today, thats where im starting. I have a cheapo turnigy one here that ill try. And if that fixes the issue, ill get a Castle one. |
A Castle will sort you out. The Savox servo pulls a lot of power and the bec in the MMP is not upto the job. Get a bec, set it at 6v and away you go. I run one in all my trucks.
|
as you guys suggested.... BEC!
email i got from CC about it. Thanks all! Michael, Savox servos are notorious for their amp draw (which is probably why they do not publish their specs), and that is the problem here. The servo is simply drawing all of the voltage out of the receiver (and Spektrum receivers are a little too sensitive to low-voltage, and have been known to drop out a little early), leaving none to power the receiver and servo. An external BEC will definitely solve the problem. Our CC BEC 10A will allow you to run any servo you want, with accessories like a personal transponder or lighting kit as well. |
I use the same setup for racing, all I can say is I give it a warmup lap, then when i give it full throttle at the start it works fine, the motor, because of the type of motor, it starts at high rpm's, so it tends to be glitchy on the start, its not ment to be run at low speeds, its ment for racing.
