Need main system, an overhead or two and some transponders. $165Cad + shipping for bare minimum setup.

IR based, but everything in your price range will be perhap minus the Kyosho core system. That said this system is used at 1/8 offroad tracks... should be more than adequate for personal use :)

Don't forget to download the TimingBeam android app as well. it works perfectly with Dirt Champ Designs.

I'm a bit surprised finding lap timing systems for this hobby is scarce. there are a lot of these infrared systems for motorcycles/kart racing that would work great for the rc cars if the reciever was smaller. and the cool part is the beacon/transmitters are only $55

I'm sure this has been ask many times over but my searching hasn't turned up much. Anyone know of a cheap personal lap counter/timing system? I saw several post mention a Team Orion personal lap counter but can't find info on it.

I had this system a few years ago when I was running I ran a Spektrum module in my Futaba 3PK.

You would need to research it to make sure what you would need in the area of radio, but I was happy with it.

Thanks Tom,
I saw that but since I don't use a Spectrum it's no help.
