protek 65 charger

Default protek 65 charger

Ok I've got a protek 65 charger and am having trouble with it im trying to charge 6s packs and it wont charge over 2.3 amps and its taking forever like 90 min for a 3000 mah pack I've tryed changing the ampage but wont go higher than 2.3 any help

My guess would be its the fault of the tiny 5 amp internal power supply. Try hooking it up to your cars battery once. I bet it will charge at 5amps then.

Im running them on a protek pro 20 power supply

The Protek 65 charger is a 50watt charger and what you're seeing is the charger limiting charge current to stay under its power limit.

If your 6S is at 21.0v for example, then the most you'll see for charge current is 50w/21v = 2.38amps. As the pack voltage goes up during the charge, you'll see the current fall a little more , again, based on the charger's 50watt power limit. The power supply doesn't matter as long as its providing the 50watts and enough extra to overcome the chargers inefficiency (~60watts total) and your is more than capable. This is the charger....


A 5000mah 6S lipo needs a charger with more than 126watts charger output power to charge at 5amps (1C).
