Default ESC capacitors

How critical are the values on ESC capacitors? I have a Tekin RS Pro, and one of the capacitor leads broke off and it is very very short. I managed to it tack it back onto the post with some solder, but it's not ideal. The lead is no longer long enough to give a secure mount. I have some 10V 4600μF caps, would these be okay to use? I'm only running 2s, so the voltage should be fine, but the real question is 4600μF too big for this purpose? What are these capacitors used for anyway, is this to protect the battery from voltage spikes? If so, I'm guessing bigger is fine, but if it's for filtering, not so much.
