Default Why it pays to read instructions

So, got a new charger and a new reciever life pack.
Had a quick flick through the instructions on how to set it to charge life batteries, looks pretty easy.
Change the settings on the display to do it, thinking to myself, man this new technology is great and simple, pretty much fool proof.........

So I proceed to hook up the reciever pack to the correct charging lead, still all good.
So now that thats hooked up, have a quick look on the charger for the charging jack, find a hole that looks like it will plug into, so plug it in without a second thought...............

And I get an instant smoke show
Wires instantly went red hot and melted the charging leaad, the connector on the receiver pack also got hot and the wire from the pack pulled away from the connector.

So, will there have been any damage done to the Life pack?

Also, any tips on how to connect a new connecter to the pack?
