Default EVX 14.4 3014 problem

I just bought a used E-Maxx. When I start it moving, it just takes off and I have no control over it. It goes until it crashes and the batteries fall out. Does this mean the speed control is toast? I read somewhere about a guy who had Traxxas refurbish his speed control. Is that a possiblility? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like esc may have lost its calibration. Did you change radio?

I would try re-calibrating the radio to the esc. Look in the manual and go through the calibration procedure.

Default ESC Traxxas

Duster,
Thanks for responding. No, the ESC is the one that came with it. I don't have a manual for it, so I will look online to see if I can download one and try the calibration. I'll keep you posted.

Default My ESC

Duster,
I just posted to your account, but not knowing which is best, I am reposting here.

Duster,
I'm the fellow with the E-Maxx and the ESC problem. I am looking up the manual. How do I tell what model I have. There are no markings that I can find. The ESC is a Traxxas EVX 14.4 mdl 3014. The receiver is Traxxas 2215, 27 mhz. Motors are Titan Monster 550,s. Thanks again for your help.

Its covered in the manual, but lets be sure its not something else first. You are turning the radio on 1st? You always turn the radio on 1st - that way when you turn the rcvr in the E-Maxx on, it 'sees' the correct radio signal and only that signal. If you turn the RC on 1st, you can have a run away similar to what you describe.

If you're not sure, try it this way, but set your E-Maxx on something so the wheels are off the ground where it can't run off. Turn teh TQ radio on 1st, then the E-Maxx rcvr.

This is the manual that came with the 3906 model E-Maxx with the 3014 EVX -

http://traxxas.com/pdfs/3906_manual-2002.pdf

Start reading the manual linked above on page 25 - speed control programming starts middle of the next page.

Switch it out with something that is worth it. Traxxs has really never made anything worth a damn.

You might have a bad radio, or ESC.

Make sure your trim is set correctly, and go through the setup procedure.

If all else fails, buy something that is actually worth a damn. Hobbywing, Novak, Tekin, LRP are all good products.

Default Confused

Metal,
Thank you for your input, but I am somewhat confused. I am new to the RC arena. My confusion is that my Traxxas 3014 ESC is manufactured by Novak which you say is a good unit.

If you contract Traxxas, they will tell you to go to their site, register your truck, and go through a process to open a work order. Then it's 50 bucks, plus shipping to Traxxas to refurbish it.

I would try going through the setup on the ESC since it only takes a few moments and it's free.

Also, if you think your Transmitter or reciever are to blame, there are quite a few budget friendly upgrades for an early Emaxx.
